What steps should I take if my Pet has passed?
preserving your pets cells
-
Immediate refrigeration of your pet's body is essential. Please do not freeze his or her body.
-
Consult your vet regarding the tissue sampling procedure. While we encourage involving your vet, if they are unable to perform the procedure, consider alternative options such as contacting other veterinarians or seeking assistance from a trusted friend or family member.
-
If your pet has been refrigerated for less than 7 days, take four skin tissue samples (5 mm x 5 mm x 5 mm), with one preferably from the ear. Samples must be of tissue and not hair, ashes, or internal organs.
-
The cost for cell preservation is $1400, with an additional $150 annual storage fee starting the following year. Cell preservation is a necessary first step for cloning, allowing you to store cells indefinitely until you're ready to proceed with cloning.
-
Prepare the biopsy site by shaving and sterilizing the area. Use sterile tools and store samples individually in sterile saline solution. Refrigerate the samples until just prior to shipping.
-
Prepare the necessary supplies including a razor, sterilizing agent, sterile gauze, scalpel blade, tweezers, marker, sterile cups or tubes, sterile saline, ice packs, and an insulated foam cooler for shipment.
-
For veterinarians performing the procedure, utilize sterile scalpel and forceps, cutting through tissue layers to obtain four tissue samples of recommended sizes. Place each sample in sterile saline solution and refrigerate until shipment.
-
In case of difficulty finding supplies or arranging immediate assistance, utilize DIY alternatives for quick tissue sampling. Speed, basic sterilization, and refrigeration are crucial considerations.
-
Pack samples securely in an insulated foam cooler with ice packs and ship via FedEx Priority Overnight to ensure timely delivery.
